The Election Is Over And I Still Feel Icky

I'm waking up this morning in a country I feel like I barely know or understand. Donald Trump has apparently won enough electoral votes to become the next president of the United States.

What?

As a Bernie Sanders supporter this scrapes the bottom of the worst-possible-outcome barrel. We are now a country moving backward in the tide of forward thinking change. We are now a country in distress.

I just ordered a handful (because the loss of one or two is inevitable) of American Flag lapel pins. I plan to wear one, upside down, every day for the next 4 years to show just how distressed I believe this country is as well as how distressed I am as an American with a person like Trump at the wheel. My pins should arrive on Tuesday.

I thought I felt icky when I had to register as a Democrat to vote for Bernie, I have never been ashamed of this country - today I am.

Goodbye Anchovy

My old guy passed away on September 12. Sadly, I wasn't home with him. I was on my way home from a trip to Colorado, riding in a car somewhere in Kansas when I got the call from my bestie (and pet sitter) that Anchovy wasn't looking very well. I trust my girl, Jen. We worked together at an animal hospital for a lot of years; if she says it's time then it's time. I'm exceptionally saddened that I wasn't here to be with him. We were together almost 17 years, why couldn't he wait three more days?

I'll miss his little alien looking self. I always jokingly said if Anchovy were a person he would be a gay French dude. He's going to be terribly missed.

Pike on the left, Anchovy on the right. Both have now passed.
Oddly, he left in the same time frame that he came in. Pike was my first kitty and when he turned 6 Anchovy came to live with us. Pike passed 6 years ago and now Anchovy has followed him.

My little family is shrinking alarmingly. We've gone from 7 bodies in the van to 4 in a little over a year.  Dandy. Dot and Tadpole are all close to the same age 6/7 so hopefully we won't be suffering any more losses any time soon.

Next Stop VARF

I'll be pulling out of Odenton, MD next week to head to Spotsylvania, VA for the Virginia Renaissance Festival. for the next 5 weeks. Here's hoping for great weather and good times! I'm leaving the Inn behind and packing into Randy's rig.

I have a huge post to make about the Inn and I'll try to get that done tomorrow.

Homemade Alcohol Drinks & Tinctures

I've been fascinated with infusing alcohol with flavors for a couple years now. It all started with homemade Limoncello and then moved on to Cherry infused rum and blackberry infused brandy. I have a new batch of Limoncello I made this past winter as well as some Cutie infused alcohol and now I'm making Strawberry infused alcohol.

This stuff is going to be so yummy. They're so pretty how can you not want to make more? I also made a tincture of Lions Mane mushroom to help with my Lyme disease.

My first homemade Limoncello

Cherry infused rum
Blackberry brandy
Latest batch of Limoncello - look how clear it is!
Cutie orange infused alcohol

Second round of strawberries
First round of strawberries out.

Time for Spring Cleaning!

via GIPHY

The Inn is currently Untarped because the weather is nice and I'm switching from a giant tarp to a less giant tarp so that I can get some light inside of the van. It's been like a bat cave all damned winter.

But it's Spring! The windows are open, fresh air is happening! It's time to unpack this place and clean! I think it's supposed to rain tomorrow so I'll retarp tonight but I've definitely been enjoying the fresh air and sunshine.

Now I need to find the energy to start unpacking.

Goodbye Harley

Harley the chihuahua has left this world. Surrounded by the love and lifting light of his human companions. What a great team Harley and his humans have been  raising awareness and funds tostop puppy mills and their hideous treatment of animals.

This is definitely the hardest part of the bond we share with our animals friends. We are as deeply affected by their passing as we would be any human close to us in our lives. It is almost an inevitability that we will outlive our animal companions (unless you get a bird - then they will likely outlive you)

Much love goes out to Harley, his human friends both in life and on the internet.

If you have never read Harley's story, it's worth it. Click here,
