It's F'ing Cold!

Cherry February 12, 2012 7

I really think I'm going to have to take that trip to PA to smack the fur off that gerbil for wishing cold weather on us. It's currently 29 degrees (16 with the wind chill) which makes for a frozen Cherry when you consider I have no central heat in my house. I'm working with a Holmes oil filled space heater (which the cats are currently circled around) and running my electric clothes dryer (modified to be able to vent inside) in 30 min cycles (thank the gods I am not paying my electric bill) just to keep the place above freezing. It is currently 43 degrees in my house!

I'm wearing a ton of clothes including two pairs of pants, two shirts and a hoodie, a scarf and fingerless gloves and drinking a literal butt ton of hot chocolate just to stay warm.

What else is there to do on a day when it's too cold to go out and work on my soon-to-be house but watch movies. I'm working my way through the Poltergeist flicks. I have to say that Reverend Henry Kane has got to be one of the all time creepiest horror heavies.

That is the one major draw back to Van's, they have absolutely Zero insulation in the framing compared to your standard RVs, especially the early Class Bs that were a very basic modification on a standard van.

Toss in the fact that they're welded sheet metal, they conduct all the heat out and all of the cold in.

Oddly and sadly it's usually warmer in the van than it is in my house right now. The sun at least heats the inside of the van even on cold days. Living in a single wide trailer is like trying to heat the inside of a shed (especially when you don't have heat)

Sounds like you have or had an older trailer, the newer MFG home-style units are usually alot better in the insulation department than alot of the older Single-wides from the 60s and 70s were.

Btw, heavy curtains (thermal curtain type) and some roof vent plugs (I made mine out of foil sided foam board) will reduce some of the heat loss in the van.

My trailer is only 6 years old - bought it new. The problem is I have no propane to run the furnace. I didn't see the point of buying propane since the trailer is going to be taken from me. I really don't need another bill looming over me. I haven't really needed heat until this past few days.

I'm a Friday the 13th nerd, but like all those kind of movies. My wife and I loved the Saw and Hostel movies too.

We just went and saw Woman In Black. Excellent.
