Let me say that if you have a weak stomach or if most theater horror movies are too much for you DO NOT WATCH THIS MOVIE. It contains disturbing/severe aberrant behavior involving strong bloody violence, torture, child abuse and nudity

The movie is also dubbed or subtitled since it's a French flick. Just so you know.

Synopsis: A young woman's quest for revenge against the people who kidnapped and tormented her as a child leads her and a friend, who is also a victim of child abuse, on a terrifying journey into a living hell of depravity.

Martyrs Trailer

I saw the unrated version so I have no idea what the R rated version has cut out. I would suggest seeing the unrated version so you don't lose any of the story.

This movie is one of those flicks that leaves you thinking long after you've watched it. Not only that but you may also be trying to scrub the images from your brain. I will likely never revisit this movie but I'm glad I watched it. I do not believe this movie has any grey areas. If you take my recommendation and watch this flick you will either hate me forever or appreciate that you just watched a rather profound horror movie.

I can't stress enough that it is visually disturbing, in fact the whole premise is rather disturbing but it's smart and I like that in a movie. I take issues with movies that gore folks just to do it and try to claim any sort of seriousness - sure Freddy Kreuger, Michael Myers and Jason Voorhees all have their place in the horror genre but Martyrs is a thinking flick once you get past the bloodshed.

I have a feeling if you can make it to the end you'll be sitting with your jaw on the floor much like I was.

Martyrs gets a 8 out of 8 cherries from me
